Escaping the Village
I just recently watched the movie The Village. Although, the movie was not a great classic I did think it showed a great picture of the church. The movie centered around a group of people who had isolated themselves from the rest of the world because of different tragedies that the leaders of the village had experienced while living in the "world." They called outsiders the "ones we don't speak of." The story climaxes as the main character, a blind young lady, needs to leave the village in order to help save the life of the man she loves. As I watched this movie, I wondered how the church has become a place where we hide ourselves behind our 4 walls and those outside of us are the ones we don't speak of. Or if we speak of them, it is blaming them and chastising them for not being like us. "Why aren't they in church? Don't they know it's the Lord's day?" Have you heard those before. Maybe you have even said them. I have. Maybe they are not in our churches because we have not escaped our villages long enough to show them they are the ones God loves and we love. Will you Escape the Village?
